1. Formal Upright
2. Informal Uprigh
3. Slanting
4. Cascade
5. Semi Cascade

The Formal Upright.

It should have a straight trunk with good taper.
To make good formal upright, make sure that about one third of the trunk is visible from the front . The first branch should be at about 1/3 of the total height. The distance between the branches should decrease as you get closer to the top of the tree.

To get reasonable trunk taper can be difficult. However by pruning the top back hard while allowing the bottom branches to grow on you can over the space of a few years induce reasonable taper.

Recommended Species: Bonsai Larches, Juniper Bonsai , Pines , Conifer Bonsai and Spruces Bonsai are all suitable species. Maples can also be used, but are not as easy to train into such a conformist style. Above all, fruiting or naturally informal trees are not suitable for formal upright

Informal Upright.
To make the Informal Upright style is perhaps the easiest style to get right for the beginner. The trunk should 'flow' unlike the Formal Upright . It bend or alter their direction away from wind or shade other trees, or towards light. In an informal upright bonsai the trunk should slightly bend to the right or left - but never towards the viewer.
The style still requires a tapered trunk, however the trunk direction and branch positioning is more informal and closer to the way a tree would look when exposed to the elements at an early age. The trunk usually takes on an unexpected curve or series of twists and the branches are thus positioned to balance this effect.

The way of developing the trunk on an informal upright is the 'Clip and grow' method, where a tree is allowed to grow away, to thicken up. The tree is then cut back to a few inches, ideally above a bud and then allowed to grow on again. The process is repeated several times, each time the cut is made higher up. In a few years you will have a good trunk and can then set about forming the branches.
Jin (carved remains of dead or unwanted branches to look like dead and rotting limbs of a tree) is also more appropriate and effective with the informal upright style

Recommended Species: Most species of plants are suitable for this style, mainly the japanese maple bonsai (Acer palmatum), Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum), Beech, practically all Conifers and other ornamental trees such as the Crab Apple, Cotoneaster and Pomegranate

Slanting styles.

Slantingstyles are that a slanting tree will usually have a straighter trunk than an informal tree. Trees that slant naturally occur a result of buffeting winds or deep shade during early development. Whether curved or straight, the whole trunk leans at a definite angle. The stronger roots grow out on the side, away from the angle of the trunk lean, to support the weight.

Recommended Species: Most species are suitable for this style, as the style does bear similarity to informal upright. Conifers work particularly well

Cascade Style

The cascade bonsai reaches below the base of a container. The trunk has a natural taper and gives the impression of the forces of nature pulling against the forces of gravity. Branches appear to be seeking the light. The trunk of a cascade bonsai should come forward of the pot and slightly to one side. Cascades are always planted in deep pots to provide both visual and physical stability.
Recommended Species: Many species are suitable, if they are not strongly upright.

Semi Cascade Style.

like the cascade, projects over the rim of the container, but does not drop below its base. The style occurs in nature when trees grow on clifs or overhang water. The angle of the trunk in this bonsai is not precise, as long as the effect is strongly horizontal, even if the plant grows well below the level of the pot rim. Any exposed roots should balance the trunk.

Recommended Species: Many species are suitable, except strongly upright ones. Flowering cherries, cedars and junipers work well.

Tips on Viewing: When viewing a bonsai display, you will notice three elements: the tree, an accent item (usually a stone or plant) and the stand (called a "dai"). These three items should harmonize to form a triangle, with the highest point being the top of the tree. The accent item will be placed to the left or the right of the tree and will form the furthest point of the triangle. Bonsai are never displayed sitting directly on the display surface.

The tree itself will present either a single triangle or set of triangle shaped features. The highest point of the triangle is, in most cases, the top of the tree (called the "apex"). The right and left points of the triangle are formed by the first and second branches (the two branches closest to the ground). Most of the basic styles follow this general rule. When viewing the displays, see if you can find the triangles.

Other features to look for are good, strong, visible roots (nebari), a gentle movement and taper in the trunk (tachi-agari), a distinct apex, and well developed branches and foliage. The trunk should have a good taper, with good root formation visible at soil level. Branches should be larger at the bottom of the tree and decrease in size as they near the top. The distance between the branches should decrease as they near the top of the tree. There should be negative (open) areas between the branches to give the impression of a tree rather than a shrub. A bonsai may have areas of dead wood to give an impression of age. To fully appreciate bonsai, get down to the level of the tree and look up into it much as you would look at a tree in nature.

Sementara itu, sejumlah pakar anjing juga masih terus memperdebatkan penggolongan jenis anjing menurut kriteria mereka masing-masing. Pada abad pertengahan, penggolongan jenis anjing menetapkan 4 tipe anjing, yaitu wolf, mastif, hound dan greyhound.

Berbagai perdebatan mengenai penggolongan jenis anjing memang membuat khasanah dunia anjing makin menarik. "This agreement is evidence of the Bush Administration's continuing commitment to ensuring compliance with the Clean Air Act. EPA expects companies to act responsibly and within the law when it comes to protecting public health and the environment."

Bush and Republican lawmakers who had once supported gutting the Clean Air Act are now trying to use it as evidence of their commitment to the environment, an issue that often ranks low for their party.

The government argued that Bunge did not get permits or approval for modifications to their soybean processing plants and those modifications led to significant increases in pollution. This case follows similar settlements with other processors including Cargill Inc. and Archer Daniels Midland.

"This settlement will reduce the formation of ground-level ozone, a pollutant that irritates the lungs and exacerbates diseases such as asthma," said Sue Ellen Wooldridge, assistant attorney general for the Justice Department's Environment and Natural Resources Division.

Bunge is a multi-state agribusiness based in St. Louis, MO and is handles American operations for multinational corporation Bunge Limited. In addition to paying a fine and retrofitting its production facilities, the company also agreed to finance public works projects for each of the 8 states that sued the company. Where else can you climb a technically mind-blowing 8c route in the morning, take a swim in the warm Andaman Sea in the afternoon and dance away the night with hot single travellers on the beach until you collapse or get lucky? On Railay Beach, that s where. The rock climbing scene around Krabi has been legendary for years, but you don t actually climb in Krabi Town. You take a longtail boat on a 15 minute jaunt around the cape from Krabi to an inaccessible headland known as Tham Phra Nang. This is the home of Railay Beach, wherein lies the finest climbing in Thailand, and quite possibly the entire Asian region.

Things got started in the late 1980s, when a local Thai climber named King began putting up routes on the limestone cliffs surrounding Railay and Ton Sai Beach. Originally just another idyllic sandy hideaway for intrepid backpackers, Railay has quickly evolved into a major beach destination for climbers and sun seekers alike. What makes Railay unique is that even though it s connected to the Thai mainland, it is only accessible by boat thanks to the towering limestone cliffs that create a natural barrier to roads. No motorbikes, no traffic. Just the quiet hum of longtails puttering off in the distance.

The other quality that draws visitors to Railay year after year is the surreal limestone karsts which rise out of the Andaman Sea just offshore like tantalizing fingers beckoning adventurous climbers. With over 650 climbing routes already established, and more being put up every season, Railay is the climbing centre of the universe in this part of the world. Best of all, the diversity of the routes is such that a complete beginner can have just as much fun as a seasoned rock junkie.

With about ten climbing schools on this tiny beach, there are plenty of experienced guides who can show you the basics. My girlfriend is a serious climber back home, one French traveller admitted. Most of the high-profile climbing routes are located between Railay Beach East and Tham Phra Nang headland. Spectators lounging on the beach can watch climbers scaling sheer 200 meter cliffs like Eagle s Nest just at the end of the sand. But the busy winter season brings hoards of visitors to Railay, a condition which hardly any climber enjoys. Like all beautiful places, Railay is no secret. Already, new spots in the Krabi region such as one area about 2 hours south of Krabi have been discovered. Routes have been bolted, maps drawn up, and the soul climbers now have a private place to climb in peace (at least until the first bungalows are built).
